IPL Photorejuvenation

Updated: Feb 8, 2019

A clear complexion is something many people want, but even with the most meticulous skincare regimen, blemish-free skin can be difficult to achieve. Photorejuvenation or Photofacial, which uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, can help reduce the appearance of some of the most common skin woes, including brown spots, melasma, broken capillaries and sun spots. This minimally invasive skin procedure can also treat signs of aging such as wrinkles or age spots. There’s very little recovery time and few side effects, making it a popular procedure.

When to Consider Photorejuvenation

If you want to improve the look of your skin without undergoing a full surgical procedure, if you have redness, brown spots or scarring on your skin, or If you would like to reduce pore size, fine wrinkles and improve skin texture, then a photorejuvenation treatment may right for you.

Unwanted Skin Pigmentation

Have you noticed unwanted pigmentation, sun spots or age spots, also known as “liver spots” on the skin of your face, chest or hands? Wouldn’t you love it if these telltale signs of aging and sun damage could be almost magically lifted and removed without the need for a deep chemical peel or painful dermabrasion procedure? Well your prayers have been answered, yes, it is now possible to remove this unwanted pigment through a process known as intense pulsed light or more commonly the “Photofacial”, offered at Renove Med Spa in Rehoboth Beach, by Dr. Michelle Parsons.

Typically ninety to ninety-five percent of the pigment can be removed in a single treatment, which takes less than 30 minutes to accomplish. Dr. Parsons has been performing photofacials in Rehoboth Beach since 2006 and has the most experience in the area and performs each photofacial herself, never delegating this procedure to a non-physician.

The decollete or chest is another area that often shows signs of sun damage and can exaggerate your age. Intense pulsed light works very well for correcting damage in this area, though more than one treatment is often needed due to the more extensive pigmentation most women have here. Though once corrected, treating the chest is very rejuvenating!

Dr. Parsons’ photofacial treatment uses full spectrum natural light, not a laser or other harmful rays, that is applied to the skin being treated in a series of about 30 pulses. Immediately following the treatment you will feel a sensation similar to a sunburn, which will last 45 minutes to as long as 2 hours. Afterwards, your skin will feel normal and you can even apply makeup. Over the next 12 to 24 hours the unwanted pigment, which has absorbed the natural light energy, will darken and begin to work its way to the surface of the skin where is can finally be naturally exfoliated over the next three to seven days. Unlike deep laser resurfacing techniques or chemical peels, there is no down time, no damage to the overlying skin, without the need to avoid going out in public or dealing with messy dressings.
